FTO glass is a fluoride-doped tin dioxide conductive glass, which is made of FTO material into a thin film and then covered on ordinary glass to form a new type of composite glass. FTO is the abbreviation of fluorine-doped tin oxide, which is an N-type semiconductor material.
The crystal structure of FTO is based on the rutile type structure of tin dioxide (SnO₂), which is a tetragonal structure. In FTO, fluorine ion (F⁻) is incorporated into the tin dioxide lattice in the form of oxygen ion (O²⁻), thereby improving the conductivity of the material.
FTO glass has the advantages of high electrical conductivity, low emissivity, good chemical stability and mechanical strength, so it has a wide range of applications in photovoltaic, photothermal, photoelectric and other fields.
1. High electrical conductivity: FTO glass has an extremely high electrical conductivity, up to 10^4 S/cm or more, which gives it a significant advantage in applications where good electrical conductivity is required.
2. High light transmittance: Its light transmittance is usually more than 90%, and it has excellent transparency in visible and near-infrared light bands to ensure efficient light transmission.
3. Chemical stability: FTO glass is composed of fluorine, oxygen, tin and other elements of the compound is very stable, can withstand a variety of chemical substances and harsh environment, showing good chemical stability and thermal stability.
4. Good machinability: FTO glass can be processed into a variety of shapes and sizes to suit the needs of different applications, such as touch screens, solar panels, etc.
5. Strong environmental adaptability: Although FTO glass may be affected by environmental humidity and temperature changes during use, its overall performance is relatively stable, and it is not easy to have problems such as resistance drift.
6. Rich resources: Compared with ITO (indium tin oxide), the tin resources of FTO are more adequate, and the preparation cost is relatively low, which is conducive to large-scale production and application.

1. Q: What is FTO glass?
A: FTO (Fluorine-doped Tin Oxide) glass is a transparent conductive metal oxide that can be used in the fabrication of transparent electrodes for thin film photovoltaics, such as: organic photovoltaic, amorphous silicon, cadmium telluride, dye-sensitised solar cells, and hybrid perovskites.
2. Q: What is the difference between FTO and ITO glass?
A: FTO coated glass is preffered over ITO for high temperature applications. FTO can withstand the temperature of 600 °C without being damaged. Not only thermally stable than ITO, FTO shows almost no change in its sheet resistance upto 450 °C temperature.
